PLATINUM Stars are working through their list of applicants for the position of head coach, but have not set a deadline for when they will announce their new man.

The club is trying to fill the void left by the departure of Owen da Gama in March, following which youth coaches Cavin Johnson and Allan Freese stepped in to guide the side to a 10th-place finish in the Absa Premiership.

Johnson remains a candidate for the full-time post and enhanced his credentials during his caretaker stint, which included a club record of five away victories in a row. But club general manager Jason Raine says they are looking at CVs received from all over the world.

"We have received CVs from everywhere and obviously I cannot comment on from who because some of the coaches are currently attached to clubs.

"But we have a very strong list of applicants and we are working through those," Raine said.

"We have set no deadline for making the appointment. We are due to have a board meeting this week to discuss the applicants, but at this stage it hasn't been 100% confirmed."

Dikwena have already made a move on the player front, though, agreeing a fee with Orlando Pirates for attacking midfielder Patrick Malokase, whose six goals in 12 appearances on loan in the second half of last season was a major reason for the club's success. They must now agree personal terms with the player. The club has signed former Pirates left-back Zondi Mthombeni, bringing him in on a three-year contract from National First Division side FC AK.
