Bhele aims for 8 goals in 2 games

EIGHT goals in two games - and by a single player! It's not impossible, according to the player closest to the Premier League's target of 26, Siyabonga Nomvethe.

The Golden Boot for the most goals in the Absa Premiership has been given added lustre: if the 26-goal target is reached, a car gets thrown in as a prize.

And Nomvethe, who scored five goals in his last two league outings, believes it is within his range.

"Winning the award with 26 goals is possible," said Nomvethe, who leads the league's scorers with 18 goals.

"I will give it my best shot in the remaining two games against Platinum Stars and Maritzburg."

Yesterday Nomvethe was named player of the month for April, a further accolade after being promised a Bafana Bafana call-up by coach Pitso Mosimane. The Bafana coach, who has consistently rejected calls for a return to the national team for Nomvethe or the other prolific 34-year-old, Benni McCarthy, relented at the weekend and conceded that Bhele would be in his squad to be announced next week.

Nomvethe, along with fellow Swallows striker David Mathebula, has been vital to the club's fortunes this season. Mathebula was player of the month in April.

From near-relegation last season, the Dube Birds are now second on the log, two points behind leaders Pirates.

"I'm happy with my performance, but for me the most important thing is to see Swallows doing well. Our main aim is to win the league," said Nomvethe.

"I will continue working hard at training, perfecting my finishing to get to more goals for my club."

Coach of the month was SuperSport's Gavin Hunt.
