Sunday helps out Leopards

BLACK Leopards have appointed Sunday Chidzambwa as caretaker coach for Sunday's CAF Confederation Cup match against Nigerian side Warri Wolves.

The former Zimbabwe national coach was appointed yesterday as Leopards coach Vladislav Heric is unable to travel with the club because he is allergic to the yellow fever injection.

Assistant coach Abel Makhubele, who stood in for Heric in their away match in the Democratic Republic of Congo two weeks ago, is in Germany.

Makhubele has been appointed by the South African Football Association to attend an advanced coaching course.

"With Abel in Germany, we decided to appoint Sunday to be in charge of the technical staff for the game in Nigeria on Sunday," said Leopards chairman David Thidiela.

"Vladislav's situation is well known by all of us. We are not panicking because Sunday has been with the club for some time now and he knows the players as well as they know him.

"The good thing is that Sunday has featured in the CAF club competitions both as a player and coach.

"He was also with us in Congo when we eliminated Saint Eloi Lupopo.

"We are looking forward to the trip to Nigeria, Sunday has been working with his contacts in Nigeria for valuable information about Warri Wolves."

Lidoda Duvha, who travel to the west African country smarting from a 4-1 defeat by AmaZulu in the league, qualified for the third round of the competition after beating Lupopo 6-4 on aggregate.
