TOP Ekurhuleni boxer Patrick Malinga's prayers have been answered.

Malinga will meet Thompson Mokwana in a rematch on the under card of the IBF world junior-featherweight title bout between Takalani Ndlovu and Jeffrey Mathebula on Saturday.

This mouthwatering boxing fiesta, which is presented by Branco Sport Promotions, will take place at the Carnival City Big Top Arena in Brakpan.

This will be the first meeting between Malinga and Mokwana since Mokwana embarrassed the Katlehong-based star with a shocking stoppage on March 26 last year. He lost on a technical knockout in round seven - his seventh defeat in 36 fights.

The loss also cost Malinga his fourth ranking with the IBF and took his career several steps backwards.

Since then Malinga, who is trained by his father Jabulani, has been begging BSP boss Branco Milenkovic to get him a rematch with Mokwana.

Mokwana has already defended his South African lightweight title, via a seventh round technical knockout win over Takalani Dangale in Welkom in October.

"I cannot express my gratitude to my promoter Branco Milenkovic enough for granting me this opportunity to face Mokwana again," Malinga said. "This guy took what belongs to me and delayed my world title challenge so it is only proper that I start with him on my way to the top again."

Patrick wants to follow in the footsteps of his brother Peter, who held the IBO and WBU world welterweight crowns.

The other Malinga brother, Vusi, will be fighting for the prestigious IBF bantamweight title shortly.

Patrick was so close to realising his world title dream when Mokwana turned his world upside down.

While not wanting to taking the gloss off Mokwana's victory, Malinga still insists that he was not feeling well in the days leading up to the fight.

Milenkovic has commended Mokwana for agreeing to give Malinga a rematch when he did not have to, as Malinga is not a mandatory challenger.

"I must commend Mokwana and his team for agreeing to face Malinga and to me he proved that he is a real champion," said Milenkovic.

Milenkovic also announced that Olympian Jackson Chauke will take on Nyelisane Thagambega in a six-round flyweight clash on the under card.
