Match rained out

The Nedbank Cup last 32 match between AmaZulu and Ajax Cape Town was called off in Durban after 76 minutes on Sunday due to heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch.

Ajax were leading 2-1 after goals by Paul Rusike and substitute Thembinkosi Fanteni, with Tangeni Shipahu replying for the hosts, before the players were called off.

The second goal came in the 69th minute when a second spell of rain began to come down, with the players beginning to slide over the pitch.

There were puddles all around the edges of the field and they slowly began to entrench the pitch.

Referee Robert Sithole consulted with the fourth official, before he had a discussion with the two captains, Tapuwa Kapini of AmaZulu and Granwald Scott from Ajax, who agreed to go off.

Officials said the match would be replayed in it’s entirety on Tuesday, though it would be moved from the Moses Mabhida Stadium to Princess Magogo Stadium outside Durban.

Both sides were scheduled to play Premier League matches on Wednesday, which have been postponed till further notice.
