Tshabalala new head of Ussa

FORMER Bidvest Wits communications manager Dennis Tshabalala has been elected chairperson of University Sport South Africa's soccer committee.

This comes after his predecessor, Kenneth Neluvhalani, decided to make himself unavailable for re-election at their annual general meeting in Cape Town on Saturday.

South African Football Association national executive committee member Nomsa Mahlangu, pictured, also withdrew, leaving Tshabalala and Bushy Moloi to contest the position.

A former Ussa executive committee member, Mahlangu withdrew because of her workload at Safa where she serves as the women's committee convenor.

The hard-working Mahlangu is also employed by the University of Free State.

"I withdrew because we had three nominations from Gauteng going for the same position," said Neluvhalani, who has been elected head of finance and marketing.

University of Western Cape student Mncekeleli Sobekwa was elected as deputy to Tshabalala, who works for the University of Witwatersrand's sport section.

Montsha Kwena from University of Venda is the new general secretary, with Stellenbosch University staff member Garth le Roux as development officer. The new tournament convenor is Cawekazi Dace from the Nelson Mandela Bay University.

The 2012 national championships will be hosted by UCT at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Ussa Gauteng will launch their league programme at Tuks today at 10.30am.
