Mulaudzi hopes to fly in Tshwane

AFTER fully recovering from a niggling hamstring injury, South African 800m star Mbulaeni Mulaudzi is confident of qualifying for the 2012 Olympics at the Yellow Pages series meet in Tshwane.

The Tshwane leg of the series will take place at the University of Pretoria athletics stadium in Hatfield on March 24.

"I have travelled all over the world, the conditions in Pretoria are always the best for me to run," said Mulaudzi, who has been out of action for almost nine months. "I always do well in Pretoria. I have been training hard in preparation for the London Olympics.

"The hamstring injury has healed properly, I hope it will never bother me again. I must say it was frustrating in the past nine months because I could not run. It was disappointing for me that I could not even defend my world 800m title at the World Championships in Daegu (South Korea) in August last year."

Mulaudzi wants to win a gold medal in London to improve on the silver he won at the 2004 Athens Olympics. "I have no space for silver medals in my cabinet," he said.

Mulaudzi will run in the first leg of the Yellow Pages series in Stellenbosch on March 20.

Meanwhile, defending champions Gauteng North are leading the points standing after the first first leg of the Interprovincial Meeting in Germiston on Saturday. The second and final leg is in Bellville on March 3.
