Mbebe gets lead role for Afcon

FORMER SABC executive Mvuso Mbebe is set to join the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Local Organising Committee as its chief executive officer.

Mbebe is reported to have impressed top brass at the South African Football Association with his presentation at Nasrec two weeks ago.

"The deal is done, Safa will be making an announcement on Mvuso's appointment very soon," said an impeccable source close to developments.

Mbebe is a respected sports administrator who has served the country in various capacities, including being special adviser to former sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile.

A former CEO of the now defunct National Sport Council, Mbebe could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press. Safa CEO Robin Petersen was also not available. The LOC is led by Safa president Kirsten Nematandani as its chairman, with Irvin Khoza handling government and stakeholder relations.
