GUTSY Safa Second Division side Vardos FC secured a berth in this year's Nedbank Cup last-32 knockout stage set to get under way this week.
The Thembisa, Gauteng-based outfit advanced after beating Umtata Liverpool from Eastern Cape 1-0 in the competition's preliminary round match in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
Sibusiso Masina netted the goal that secured his team a spot in the tournament early in the first half of the one-sided match. Vardos, topping the Safa Second Division stream of Gauteng and led by coach Jabulani Mthanyelo, were lucky to beat their spirited opponents who failed to convert chances.
