Bucs in mourning

ORLANDO Pirates have suffered a double blow following the deaths of two club officials, including former Bafana security chief Albert "Bra Ali" Hlongwane.

Hlongwane, a long-serving member of the club's security department, passed away at the Sebokeng Hospital on Friday after a long illness. He was part of the Bafana Bafana security team at various competitions, including the 2002 Fifa World Cup. He quit in 2009 to focus on Bucs.

Pirates communications manager Mickey Modisane said: "We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Bra Ali. We supplicate that God gives you fortitude at this moment of extreme grief and pain."

It was also announced yesterday that one of Pirates' most dedicated young staff members, Shoes Makati, has also died. The ever-smiling Makati worked as Pirates' website photographer and also assisted the media and communications team in various aspects.

"Shoes joined us three seasons ago as our photographer, he was very close to the officials and players. We are saddened by his passing on," said Modisane.

Meanwhile, BidVest Wits' co-director George Mogotsi's nephew Mpho Sekete will be buried at Avalon Cemetery today at 10am. The funeral service will take place at 1150 Section B, Palm Springs, from 8.30am.
