Reserve League welcome

THE revival of the Reserve League in Gauteng is a step in the right direction in helping to improve the standard of the beautiful game and assist players coming back from injury to get back into shape.

This is according to Kaizer Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung.

The Reserve League was a project of the Premier Soccer League that was first launched in 2006.

"We are happy to have the Reserve League back and there are many players who will benefit from it. It is long overdue," Motaung said.

"There are players who are in the senior teams but are coming back after completing rehabilitation and the Reserve League will assist them in getting their fitness back. We also have youngsters promoted from development and this league will be a great platform to gradually introduce them into the set-up of the senior teams."

Motaung said Bafana Bafana and Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo will be in charge of their team in the Reserve League.

Bidvest Wits have opted for former Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler.

Clubs in Cape Town and Durban are expected to form a similar league.
