Police say a man has been charged with posting racist messages on Twitter about Newcastle football club.

Northumbria Police say Peter Copeland, 29, was charged on Wednesday with two offenses in connection with the Malicious Communications Act. He will appear in court on Feb. 6.

Copeland is alleged to have made a racist comment about the number of black players in Newcastle’s squad following the signing of Senegal striker Papiss Cisse on Tuesday.
