Sdinile confirms Boxing SA did not pay

BOMBSHELL: Andile Sdinile
BOMBSHELL: Andile Sdinile

BOXING South Africa deducted taxes from boxers' purse money but did not pay it to Sars, BSA board member Andile Sdinile reiterated yesterday.

He was reacting to this writer's story in Sunday World in which Sdinile was quoted as saying BSA paid boxers' taxes to Sars.

Sdinile confirmed that BSA paid its own taxes, not that of individual boxers.

The national controlling body owed Sars R7,8million in taxes and Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula bailed them out with R4,5million.

"BSA paid its own taxes, which it owed to Sars, not for individual boxers, though," said Sdinile, who dropped a bombshell three weeks ago when he revealed that BSA deducted 25percent in taxes from boxers' purse money but did not pay it to Sars.

This contradicts BSA director of operations Loyiso Mtya, who said they paid all taxes to Sars and had both signed a letter of agreement that the issues between them, Sars and boxers had been settled.

IBF junior featherweight champion Takalani "The Panther" Ndlovu, former six-time world champion Cassius "Hitman" Baloyi and former SA, IBO, WBF and WBO Africa junior welterweight champion Sam Malinga owe Sars thousands in unpaid tax.

BSA failed to provide them with IRP5 forms, the boxers said. Ndlovu partly blamed BSA for not providing him with the IRP5 forms for a fight he had in 2006. He was still under Golden Gloves at that time.

Baloyi is yet to receive his IRP5 for his fights in 2005, 2006 and 2007, while Malinga wants BSA to give him forms for 2006 and 2007.
