Safa resolute on name change

SAFA are hellbent on getting a new name for Bafana Bafana unless the owners of the trademark compromise on the price, which they argue is exorbitant.

Safa and businessman Wayne Smidt, whose company, Stanton Woodrush, owns the Bafana Bafana trademark rights, are to hold a follow-up meeting to find common ground on this thorny issue.

The company said it presented a proposal to Safa's task team of Danny Jordaan, Kirsten Nematandani and Alpha Mchunu in Nasrec last week.

Jordaan and company could not be reached for comment, but a source at Safa, who asked not to be named, said: "We are not prepared to pay R33million to get the name back.

"We are not prepared to pay a cent to get the name back. The guy has already made millions out of the Bafana Bafana brand."
