Maradona mourns mother

He has a tattoo on his back of a rose, with words of love for his mom

Diego Maradona arrived home Sunday to bury his mother Dalma Salvadora Franco de Maradona, who died on Saturday of heart failure. She was 81.

The Argentine football great arrived from Dubai, where he coaches Al Wasl in the domestic league.

He was told of his mother’s failing health and attempted to return home to be at her bedside but was informed of her death during the long flight.

Maradona did not speak publicly after arriving at Buenos Aires’ international airport. He was reported to be in charge of making funeral arrangements, but details have not been released.

Maradona’s mother, widely known as “Dona Tota,” was hospitalized  on Friday after having been in poor health for several months.

Maradona was very close to his mother and has a tattoo on his back of a rose and the words: “Tota, te amo (Tota, I love you)”.

Fans at the Sunday match between Boca Juniors — Maradona’s old club — and Racing Club held a moment of silence before the kickoff at Boca’s La Bombonera stadium.
