Adebayor could rejoin Togo team

LONDON - Striker Emmanuel Adebayor is to discuss a possible return to the national team with Togolese football federation officials, the BBC reported yesterday.

The striker, who is on loan to Tottenham Hotspur from Manchester City, retired from the national team after the Togo team bus was attacked a few days before the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. Two members of the delegation were killed, prompting the side to withdraw. The 2006 World Cup finalists failed to qualify for next year's Nations Cup finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and Adebayor said he was keen to return to the national side.

"I want to help my country but there are things that we need to talk about before I can confirm whether I am returning or not," Adebayor said ahead of a meeting with officials that was to take place yesterday. Should the 27-year-old reach an agreement with officials, he could play in the Hawks' return 2014 World Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau on Tuesday in Lome.
