South African cricketer is world's best

Newest achievement means Proteas now occupy the top batsman and bowler spots in both ODI and test match cricket

Morne Morkel’s performances in the first two ODIs against Australia has propelled him to top spot on the latest ICC One Day International (ODI) bowling rankings.

His elevation completes a full house for the Proteas’ squad.

They occupy the top batsman and bowler spots in both ODI and test match cricket.

Dale Steyn is top ranked bowler in test matches, and Jacques Kallis is the number one batsman in tests.

Proteas captain Hashim Amla, despite a modest series against the  Australians, is still number one on the ODI batsmen rankings.

In addition, AB de Villiers, though injured, is the second ranked ODI batsman.

Morkel has taken 25 wickets in the current calendar year which places him in ninth spot among the leading wicket takers.

Steyn has 24 wickets, also from 13 matches, while Lonwabo Tsotsobe has taken 18 wickets from eight matches. He has the miserly average of 14.11.

Tsotsobe currently has a career best ranking of eighth and has overtaken Steyn who is now ninth.
