The Blue Bulls have given prop Bees Roux the boot, the rugby club announced on Thursday.
A disciplinary hearing found he had trained with the Pumas rugby team without permission during his culpable homicide trial for killing a metro police officer in August last year.
"A continuation of the employer/employee relationship has become intolerable and therefore summary dismissal is an appropriate sanction under the circumstances," Blue Bulls spokesman Ian Schwartz said in a statement.
Roux was discharged with immediate effect.
"No further comments will be made in this regard," Schwartz said in a statement.
The 29-year-old Roux reached a plea bargain agreement with the State and avoided jail time. He agreed to pay metro police officer Johannes Mogale's family R750,000 and was given a five year suspended sentence on September 9.
Shortly after his conviction, his agent James Adams told Rapport newspaper that Roux was asking "every player, friend and family member" to contribute money.
According to the newspaper, he did not have the cash to make the payment.
Adams said Roux's legal costs were around R300,000 and his girlfriend had taken out a second bond on her house.
At the time of his bail application, Roux said the Bulls paid him R800,000 a year.
He signed a two-year contract with the Bulls at the end of the 2009 season and the contract was up for renewal at the end of October.
