Barkerville ready to raid Spain

SASFA general secretary Steve Pila has described Barkerville Junior Secondary School's trip to Spain as a great educational tour for the Eastern Cape youngsters.

Barkerville will represent South Africa during the 2011 Danone Nations Cup in Madrid, an annual 40-nation tournament starting tomorrow.

The team from the rural village of Ngxabaxaa in Mount Frere is one of three teams representing Africa at the event, with the other two from Algeria and Tunisia.

"We are talking here about a village that does not have electricity. The boys have to walk long distances to watch tele-vision," said Pila. "They are eager to meet some of the world's best players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Iker Casillas as the final will be played at Real Madrid's Bernabéu Stadium."
