MAMELODI Sundowns have dethroned Kaizer Chiefs at the summit of the Absa Premiership log after offering Bidvest Wits a free soccer lesson, beating them 3-2 at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga last night.

Sundowns' leadership could be a temporary measure should Chiefs, whom they relegated to the second spot on the log, beat Ajax Cape Town tonight.

The Chloorkop outfit opened the flood gates in the 12th minute when Surprise Moriri made no mistake to score his first goal of the season from Lebohang Mokoena's corner kick.

Katlego "Killer" Mphela grabbed the second goal with a header after Teko Modise's cross to become the new PSL top goal scorer in the 25th minute.

Mphela got his fifth league goal three minutes later in this game where new recruit Hlompho Kekana made his debut but will not be available for Sunday's game against Ajax Cape Town after collecting his third yellow card of the season.

Former Sundowns defender Mbulelo Mabizela pulled one back in the 60th minute.

Sibusiso Vilakazi scored Wits's second goal in the 69th minute against Sundowns who will unveil e.tv sports presenter OG Molefe as their new media officer next week.

Wits players and officials were infuriated after Modise appeared to have handled in the 18-area yard but referee Robert Sithole waved a play on.

Sandilands made a brilliant save to deny Mabizela the equaliser in the 85th minute, conceding a corner kick which Wits failed to convert into a goal.

Meanwhile, Jomo Cosmos collected their first point of the season when they played to a goal-less draw against AmaZulu at the Sinaba stadium in Daveyton.

Cosmos came out to play in the second half and had a fair command of the game and also created threatening chances.

Young Tshidiso Tukane was once again the shining star for Ezenkosi on the rare attacks they could pull off.
