Khune set for quick return

KAIZER Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is expected to return to action against Moroka Swallows in a Premiership match at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday.

Khune injured himself during their opening league match against Jomo Cosmos at Soccer City that ended in a 2-1 win for Amakhosi.

He sustained the injury in the 16th minute after making a good save from Lehlohonolo Nonyane and was replaced by Arthur Bartman.

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic said Khune was rushed to hospital for medical treatment and that the injury was "not serious".

Khune said yesterday: "I think it was a bruise but I'm fine now and should be available for the game against Swallows where we are going for yet another win."

Vermezovic said he was happy that they started the season with a bang .

"We came here knowing very well that it was going to be one of the toughest matches because Cosmos have some brilliant youngsters," he said. "We should have scored more goals. We created numerous scoring opportunities but at the end of the day the most important thing is that we have three points in the bag."

The Serbian said he was happy for new striker Lehlohonolo "Wagga Wagga" Majoro, who finally scored his first goal for Chiefs since joining them in pre-season.

Majoro broke the deadlock with the game only two minutes old but Bethuel Tukane equalised for Cosmos in the 82nd minute. Cosmos lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game and Josta Dladla punished them.

Cosmos ended the match with 10 men after Siyabonga Nhlapo's last-minute red card. Chiefs's new striker Bernard Parker had a penalty saved by goalie Avril Phali.

Cosmos owner-coach Jomo Sono said: "I thought the youngsters did very well despite the loss. I strongly believe we'll will do well this season."

Sono is hoping to tighten his defence by signing former player Thapelo Tshilo ahead of Wednesday's game against Mamelodi Sundowns at Sinaba Stadium.
