KOREAN taekwondo expert Master Jung Hyun Cho has been appointed coach of the South African team that is due to take part in the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, next month.

One of the members of the team is Alpheus Mkhonazi, who finished second at the 2007 World Olympic Qualifiers tournament.

University Sport South Africa president Makhosandile Majeke said: "It was only fair to go for Master Cho. The man is also in charge of the South African Olympic team of taekwondo.

"The team is already in Korea Republic to learn from the best. Korea is the home of taekwondo, which is why we decided to send our team there. We appreciate the support from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, Taekwondo South Africa and the National Lottery Distribution Fund."

Besides Mkhonazi of Unisa, other members of the team are Yentl Krugel and Jennifer Buskes, both of University of Pretoria.

Majeke said many athletes had used the University Games to launch their international careers, including Sibusiso Zuma and Hezekiel Sepeng.
