Breaking News! Robin Petersen is new Safa CEO

Ellis Park tragedy boss returns to run South African soccer

FORMER Premier Soccer League boss Robin Petersen is the new South African Football Association chief executive officer.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani and his management committee will unveil Petersen at a media briefing in Rosebank at 5pm this afternoon.

Peterson succeeded Joe Ndlela as PSL CEO  in 2001, but his time in charge didn't last long. It was during his reign that 43 people die and 158 injured during the Ellis Park Stadium disaster on April 11 2001.

According to media reports, fingers were pointed in all directions as to who was responsible for the disaster, and Peterson clearly suffered greatly under the weight of this burden.

Distrust on the PSL executive built up and eventually he resigned.
