Gould's fortune is Hunt's loss

SUPERSPORT United coach Gavin Hunt is anxiously awaiting news on the possible transfer of Morgan Gould to English Championship side Crystal Palace.

He has, however, appeared resigned to losing the key Bafana Bafana defender, who is on a two-week trial overseas with a view to signing with the South Norwood, London club. Hunt said: "As you know Morgan could be leaving in the off-season. But we will find out today whether he'll be leaving.

"I understand he has already played some games there and things are looking bright for him. He's an international player."

Hunt grappled with serious defensive problems following the exit of Bongani Khumalo to English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur last season.

Sensing the possible departure of Gould, Hunt moved swiftly to recruit nomadic Nasief Morris, the former Bafana defender who has earned 118 caps at top Greek side Panathinaikos.

Morris, who is expected to shore up a shaky defence, has featured for United during a four-team tournament played in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The tournament, won by United, featured other PSL sides Moroka Swallows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Platinum Stars.

Hunt has also heaped praise on young goalkeepers Sherwyn Naicker and Ronwen Williams, defender Sanele Khuzwayo and midfielder Philani Khwela, who have been promoted from the youth development structure.

"We had a big comedown last season. after three fantastic seasons," Hunt said. "That's history. We are currently rebuilding the team. We've had massive changes brought about by the transfer of 13 players.

"But I'm confident in our new recruits who have brought experience and youth to the side."

Among the veterans recruited in the off-season are midfielder John Arwuah and strikers Sibusiso Zuma and Mame Niang.

"There's no pressure. We'll just take it one game at a time," Hunt said.
