Well done SA for a successful 2010 World Cup - Safa

SAFA has showered respected administrators Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan as well as the rest of South Africans for contributing to the success of the 2010 Fifa World Cup

This comes after the Local Organising Committee wounded up its business as of June 30 2011 with all the remaining activities transferred to Safa.

“This means all assets and liabilities of the organising committee have been assumed by the South African Football Association,” said Safa president Kirsten Nematandani. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the work done by all involved with the Organising Committee, mainly Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, Dr Danny Jordaan as the CEO and  board members.

“We also want to thank everyone who contributed to make sure we hosted the most memorable FIFA World CupTM in living memory.

“We made a profit (just over R500 million) and this legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will benefit several generations to come.

“Part of this legacy will drive soccer development in all of the 52 Safa Regions.”

As part of the World Cup legacy, Safa will complete the delivery of artificial pitches to all 52 regions and has already procured 52 vehicles and 21-seater buses for all of its the regions for delivery later this year.

“All this is part of the  World Cup legacy and this responsibility will now be overseen by the national association. Because of the 2010 success, Safa is on a better financial footing than ever before,” added Nematandani.
