Chippa targeting Notoane

FORMER SuperSport United and Santos striker David Notoane has emerged as a favourite to take over as technical director of Chippa United.

United are the 2010-11 Vodacom League champions who will be campaigning in the National First Division (NFD) next season.

Club managing director Siviwe Mpengesi is retaining head coach Michael Lukhubeni but has begun the search for a technical director to beef up the team.

"We feel that Mike has done a great job but we need to get a more experienced person to be the technical director, also in charge of the development programme.

"There are several people that we are talking to but we will make an announcement at the appropriate time. It will somebody who will add value to the club," he said.

"We are also in search of several players. Our aim is to challenge for promotion in our very first season in the First Division League."

Besides Notoane - who is also the Under-23 national team assistant coach - United are also targeting Wilfred "Silver Fox" Mugeyi.

Notoane and Mugeyi could not be reached for comment.

Mpengesi said they will play their matches at Philippi Stadium.

"The support we are getting reminds me of the days of Seven Stars (which later merged with Cape Town Spurs to form Ajax Cape Town). "People in the townships of Cape Town like Mitchell's Plain, Gugulethu, Langa and Phillipi have been supporting us and we appreciate it.

"What makes this club so big in terms of support is that we are multiracial. We also have white and coloured players. The only disappointing factor is that the City of Cape Town and the provincial government are not coming on board to support us," said Mpengesi.

Chippa have joined FC Cape Town and Vasco da Gama as the three Cape Town sides campaigning in the NFD.
