Makaab sues winger Loke

FIFA-accredited players' agent Mike Makaab is suing Jomo Cosmos winger Katlego Loke for R60,000 for breach of contract.

Just days after helping his Cosmos side to return to the moneyed Premier Soccer League next season, Loke was stunned when Cosmos informed him that a court summons had arrived at the club's offices for him.

It stated the damages Makaab's agency, Prosport International, was seeking from Loke after he jumped ship two years ago.

But a fuming Loke says Makaab is taking chances and won't receive a penny from him.

He claims that Makaab showed him the middle finger when he broke his chin while playing for Thanda Royal Zulu two years ago.

He says the former Orlando Pirates coach left him to rot and if it was not for the mercy of Cosmos owner Jomo Sono, who arranged treatment for him, his career would have been over.

Questioning the timing of Makaab's requests, Loke, who is the frontrunner to scoop the Player of the Season award at his club, said he won't budge.

"Makaab waited for me to return to the PSL before making attempts to know my whereabouts.

"When I got injured, I pleaded with him to take me for treatment and he refused; now he wants my money. Bra J stood by me even when I spent most of my time in the sickbay rather than on the playing field and I owe him a lot, not Makaab. My focus is to ensure that we have a super season, not these ridiculous demands."

Attempts to get hold of Makaab proved fruitless at the time of going to press as he is abroad. But his co-ordinator Alban Newman said: "I am not allowed to discuss the matter because it has been handed over to the attorneys."

Cosmos have vowed to stand by their product.

Team manager Andrew Rabutla said: "Makaab is taking advantage now that the player is healed and that is wrong. We will give him all the necessary ammunition to fight people like Makaab who operate like this."
