Brugge, Anderlecht also want Serero

BELGIAN soccer giants Club Brugge KV and Anderlecht have joined the race to sign South African soccer star of the moment Thulani "Simply The Best" Serero.

Sowetan can reveal that Ajax Cape Town will meet Serero's business manager Mike "Nanana" Ntombela in the Mother City to discuss the offers from the European clubs.

Holland's Ajax Amsterdam, who own 51percent of the shares at the Urban Warriors, are favourites to sign the talented Serero.

The star player is a product of Ntombela's club Senaoane Gunners.

Offers for Serero, who is tipped to win the Absa Premiership player of the season and players' player of the season awards, range between R17million and R20million.

The former Majimbos and Amajita player was hard at training in the Mother City yesterday along with Clayton Daniels after the duo returned from Holland on Tuesday.

Daniels and Serero were in Amsterdam for a 10-day trial where they impressed the club's coach Frank de Boer and his technical staff.

A number of talent scouts from neighbouring countries were also at De Toekomst to watch them.

The South African duo of Steven Pienaar and Aaron Mokoena travelled the same route before becoming household names in Europe.

Pienaar left the Urban Warriors to join Ajax Amsterdam and is now one of the best players in the English Premiership.

Mokoena, who is Bafana Bafana's long-serving captain, is plying his trade at Championship club Portsmouth in England.

Serero and Daniels will be back in action when Ajax resume their challenge for the Premiership title with a home game against AmaZulu at Athlone Stadium tomorrow.
