SA hails its latest golfing hero

THE South African government yesterday complimented newly crowned US Masters king Charl Schwartzel for putting the country on the international map.

Schwartzel donned the green jacket after winning this prestigious tournament in the early hours of yesterday in the US.

Tiger Woods had to settle for a tie for fourth place.

Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula yesterday congratulated Schwartzel on his incredible achievement.

"South Africa once again has proven that we are a country on the winning path and dedicated to it," said Mbalula, who turned 40 on Friday.

"A win by Charl Schwartzel has put us in the spotlight again internationally. It is our dedication to encourage and invest more resources into the sport and continue making good strides whilst waving the South African flag.

"Charl's win is a clarion call to all corporate in SA to come to the party and invest in sport."
