ALPHA Mchunu, Safa eThekwini president and national chairperson of the referee's committee, made an appealed to business to contribute to development in local federations.

Speaking at Durban' Moses Mabhida Stadium at the achievement awards ceremony said:

"We still have many hurdles ahead as a region to achieve what we hope to," he said spelling out some challenges. "Schools in suburbs have three rugby fields, a cricket field and a swimming pool it is therefore foreseeable that these codes will be more dominant than football."

Mchunu added that business was not supportive of football development.

"We have not enjoyed the contribution of business in the eThekwini region and I would like to make a special appeal for them to come on board. They can do so by adopting one football club that is playing in any of our local associations."

Banyana Banyana captain and Durban Ladies player, Amanda Dlamini who was one of award recipients praised the region for having lively structures at grassroots level.

Other winners were (special awards) Jason Battrick, Thabani Buthelezi, Brandon Parusnath, Lizwi Dludla, Ricardo Gossi and Ubayd Deedat for U/17 players who played in the provincial colours; Njabulo Mbambo, Mduduzi Dlamini and Nhlanhla Madwe for U/20 players who played in the provincial colours.

SAB Teams: West Stream-Rockers FC; Northern Stream-Menziwa Tigers; Central Stream-Lamontville Golden Arrows. SAB Overall winner: Coastal Football Club while Rockers were named team of the season.
