Mphela and Modise left out of Bafana squad

Wayward Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela, was not included in a 24-man Bafana Bafana squad named on Thursday to face Kenya in Rustenburg next week.

New Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder signing, Teko Modise, was also shown a cold shoulder by the national selectors and was dropped from the squad that faced the United States in Cape Town in November, along with striker Sthembiso Ngcobo and four defenders -- Siyanda Xulu, Bevan Fransman, Keegan Ritchie and Tsepo Masilela.

Bidvest Wits midfielder Sifiso Myeni, is the only new addition to the squad, while Mzivukile Tom, Reuben Cloete. Tlou Segogela, Thulani Serero Bongani Khumalo and Aaron Mokoena have all been recalled.

Mphela has refused to turn out for Sundowns until the club agrees to release him to Serbian champions Partizan Belgrade at the end of the season, while Modise recently left Pirates for Sundowns before he could appear at a discpilnary meeting after leaving a training camp for personal reasons and reportedly missing practice sessions without permission.

"We had to take a stand and send a strong message that discipline at clubs should be maintained and brought to Bafana, hence some of the familiar faces are not in the squad," said Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.

"We do not encourage behaviour where players miss training or matches for whatever reason.

"We cannot compromise the integrity of those clubs where those players are contracted by calling the very same players into the national team."

South Africa were initially expected to play Burkina Faso next week, but a contract was never signed between the opposing teams' national associations, and Kenya agreed to fill in at the last minute.
