Pirates return to fortress

ORLANDO Pirates make a return to Orlando Stadium tonight when they host Vasco da Gama with their last match at the venue still on their minds.

During their last match at this historic venue the Buccaneers managed a stunning come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Bidvest Wits a fortnight ago from what looked like certain defeat.

Schoolboy errors were the order of the day as the two teams let in some sloppy goals.

Since that day Pirates have done well and currently find themselves sitting on top of the table above their traditional rivals Kaizer Chiefs. Bucs' communications manager Mickey Modisane called on the club's supporters to come in their numbers to cheer the players on.

"We are at an important stage of the league and we need all our supporters to rally round the team. We want to win the league for them but we can't do that without their support," he said.

Midfielder Andile Jali is suspended but Pirates welcome Mark Mayambela back from suspension. Mayambela and speedy Tlou Segolela should give Vasco fullbacks a torrid 90 minutes.

The visitors' cause will not be helped by the absence of veteran striker Sibusiso Zuma, who is injured.

But if they put in as much effort as they did in their first meeting with Pirates in Cape Town in August, they could cause an upset.
