Damon to oversee final

SOUTH African referees will fly the country's flag in the second leg of the Confederation Cup final next month.

CAF has appointed Jerome Damon, Andrew Rezeers, Enoch Molefe and Daniel Volgraaf to officiate, Safa said yesterday.

The first leg of the final between FUS (Morocco) and CSS (Tunisia) will be held in Rabat on Sunday, with the second leg at the Taieb Mhiri Stadium in Tunisia on December 4. Safa said the appointment followed that of Daniel Bennett and his team to officiate in the Champions League final, which they did with "diligence".

Safa professional referees coordinator Adeel Carelse said this was the first time one country has been given the privilege of such prestigious appointments.

"If one considers the sterling performances by our referees at the World Cup finals, and the recently completed 2012 Afcon qualifiers, it has been a remarkable year for Safa's referees department," he said.

Carelse said match commissioners were undergoing a match assessors' course .
