Church honour for Chuene

SUSPENDED Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene is one of four people who will be honoured by a Limpopo church in Polokwane on Sunday.

The Porters' House, which is led by celebrated Pastor Clement "Rubber" Koma, will also honour former Limpopo premier Sello Moloto, community builder Grace Sekhu and Bantwana Bantwana captain Rachel Sebati.

"As a church we have yearly awards where we honour various people for their unselfish work in community upliftment projects," Koma said yesterday.

"We are honouring Leonard for his invaluable contribution to the development of athletics in South Africa and on the continent.

"He was also there to support Caster Semenya, who went on to make the country proud by winning a gold medal at the World Championships.

"Leonard was also an outstanding soccer player when we were still youngsters," said Koma, who was a talented soccer player in the 1970s and 1980s.

Sekhu is founder of the Grace and Hope School for children with intellectual disabilities.

She has since started the Re a Kgona Adult Centre in the province's capital, Polokwane.

Sebati, Sekhu and Moloto could not be reached for comment yesterday but Chuene expressed gratitude for the support from the church.
