Bhele Chief threat

VETERAN Moroka Swallows striker Siyabonga "Bhele" Nomvethe is giving Kaizer Chiefs players sleepless nights ahead of their rescheduled Premiership match at Dobsonville Stadium tomorrow night.

Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said yesterday that Nomvethe poses a threat to Amakhosi.

"We all know that Swallows will be playing attacking football and they'll be coming at us so we are expecting a tough match. Their form has not been good but one has to wonder if our defence will be able to deal with Siyabonga Nomvethe's pace," Khune said.

Swallows have lost three of the four opening league games of the season and drawn one but defender Roger da Costa feels that will make them all the more dangerous. "It might be bad for them (Chiefs) to be playing us now because we are desperate for points," he said.

"(But) it's not the time to be pressing panic buttons. We are aware of our position on the log and realise that we have to change our situation before it's too late."

The highlight of Swallows' season so far was taking part in the MTN8 final where they lost 4-2 to Orlando Pirates on penalties.

"The mentality in cup games is different because the players put a lot of emotions into the games trying to win trophies, whereas with league games they might think there's always another game," Da Costa said.

"The coach doesn't need to say anything to us because playing Chiefs is a motivation in itself."

Last season, the Dube Birds had the upper hand over Chiefs in the league, winning one match and drawing their second one for a total haul of four points against their Soweto rivals. The match kicks off at 8pm.
