Mphela: Bafana will attack from the start

BAFANA Bafana will adopt a more attacking approach to register their first away win under coach Pitso Mosimane at the expense of Sierra Leone in Freetown on Sunday.

This is according to the team's chief striker, Katlego "Killer" Mphela, who said they wanted to avenge the shock 1-0 defeat by Sierra Leone in the same city in 2008.

Bafana, who leave for Sierra Leone tomorrow, are chasing their second successive 2012 Africa Cup of Nations victory after beating Niger 2-0 in Mbombela last month.

"This is going to be a tough match. Sierra Leone are fresh from a 1-1 draw with seven-time African champions Egypt in their opening match," Mphela said yesterday.

"We just have to be mentally strong and will do well. The plan is to attack from the start. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal to come back three points richer.

"We expect Egypt to beat Niger, so we have to keep up the pressure by beating Sierra Leone and remain on top of the group log."

Mphela said it was a blow not to have Steven Pienaar, who is allegedly injured: "The likes of Teko (Modise) and Siphiwe (Tshabalala) will set up and score goals. The trip to Freetown is not mission impossible.

"We have been working hard at training this week to polish our finishing," Mphela said.

"We'll get it right on Sunday."

Young goalkeeper Darren Keet said he was excited to be back with the national squad.

"I was surprised by the call-up. In fact, it came when I was preparing to go to Iran with the Under-23 national side," said the Bidvest Wits goalie.
