WHOEVER invented the aphorism that "those who live in glasses houses mustn't throw stones" should have had the ANCYL in mind.
Barely a month ago its members in Khayelitsha violently destroyed corrugated iron toilets installed by the DA after the open toilets saga in Makhaza informal settlement reached the public domain, saying the loo structures undermined black people.
Even Minister Sicelo Shiceka is on record as saying the open toilets can only be done in Western Cape.
Now the chickens have come home to roost.
In Viljoenskrool under the ANC municipality people have been utilising open toilets since 2001 and unlike the Western Cape nothing has been done to rectify this situation, which is clearly an affront to human dignity.
I have to agree with those who called the thuggish manner of the ANCYL as nothing but a way to undermine the excellent work other municipalities are doing, albeit not run by the ruling party.
It remains to be seen whether the SAHRC headed by the ANC's Lawrence Mushwana will, like they did in the Western Cape, investigate a potential violation of the right to dignity.
