The service is expected to celebrate the life of Mhlongo the music icon, role model and mother.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for arts and culture Weziwe Thusi, Mhlongo's nephew Somizi Mhlongo, music legends Abigail Kubheka and Thandiswa Mazwai are expected to be part of the service.
Mhlongo's family yesterday confirmed that she will be buried in her late mother Flora Mhlongo's grave at Phoenix Cemetery on Saturday. She died in 2001.
Mhlongo's brother Jabulani said it was his sister's wish that she be buried with their mother.
There have been clashes between Mhlongo's family and her friend and manager Neil Comfort, with the family claiming that he was withholding her ID book. Jabulani confirmed that they still did not have the ID book.
"Whatever reason he is keeping her ID book it is causing the family a huge inconvenience . A lot of things need us to have her ID book. However, we are going to give our sister a dignified burial even without the document," he said.
In a statement, Comfort said Mhlongo asked him to act on her behalf and for her estate when she died.
Mhlongo died last Tuesday at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
"I act as co-executor of her will alongside Nompumelelo Elaine Mabuza-Black, Mhlongo's daughter, and John Peacock of attorneys Peacock, Liebenberg and Dickinson," Comfort said.
He said he was instructed by his co-executors to retain Mhlongo's personal belongings. He had told those relatives asking for her ID book at the hospital that he was legally obliged to keep it "until such time as her last will and testament" was lodged at court.
Comfort had promised to release the ID book when Mhlongo's daughter arrived on Thursday. When Sowetan contacted him yesterday he declined to comment.
