Bruwer set for walk in the park

BOXING trainer Nick Durandt is relieved that his charge, Daniel "Billy The Kid" Bruwer, will be in action on July 1.

BOXING trainer Nick Durandt is relieved that his charge, Daniel "Billy The Kid" Bruwer, will be in action on July 1.

Bruwer will fight Sean Santana in a non-title fight in the cruiserweight division at Wembley Arena.

This bout will form part of a joint fixture between promoter Pat Molefe's Rainbow Promotions and the Durandt Boxing World. It will be bankrolled by Neo Africa.

"Everybody has been running and hiding. This (bout) is a big relief for Daniel and myself," Durandt said yesterday. "After trying for two-and-a-half months, I had lost hope that Daniel would be in action on July 1, but Sean showed balls by taking the fight."

However, the bout is a mismatch of note: it's chalk and cheese. Bruwer is 28 and tough while Santana is 33 and washed up.

Santana has been stopped five times in as many defeats.

Bruwer has been inactive for almost two years, but has not lost a fight since Andre Thysse stopped him in 2005.

Bruwer has chalked up six stoppages from nine straight fights. He boasts 17 short-route victories in 20 wins.
