Glazers are in the red

LONDON - The American owners of Manchester United are £1,1billion (R12,3billion) in debt, putting their control of the club in doubt.

LONDON - The American owners of Manchester United are £1,1billion (R12,3billion) in debt, putting their control of the club in doubt.

The BBC says its investigation found that the Glazer family's debts are £400million (R4,47billion) greater than previously known.

The BBC says the extra debt comes after the Glazers borrowed extensively against their shopping mall business in the US.

The extent of the debt could fuel a further revolt by the group of United fans who oppose the Glazers' ownership. - Sapa-AP
