LIMPOPO will host the fifth edition of the International Sport Confederation for the Intellectually Disabled World Football Championship, from August 21 to September 12.
The launch and draw for the tournament took place in Polokwane on Friday. It was announced that the event will begin on August 21 and end on September 12.
The tournament takes place a month after the Fifa World Cup.
The first championships was first held in The Netherlands in 1994, but after the 2006 World Cup it was resolved that the event should take place in a smaller area within the Fifa World Cup host country, in the future.
MEC for Sport in Limpopo, Joyce Mashamba, believes that the upcoming event will afford the province an opportunity to host big events.
"We are proud to host an event of this magnitude. Through it the province will be known to the whole world. Venues in Tzaneen, NkowaNkowa, Polokwane, Giyani and Seshego are ready," she said.
"We will mobilise the province and country to rally behind the South Africans and the whole tournament.
"We also wish Bafana Bafana good luck on their way to win the World Cup."
President of the South Africa Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired Lizzy Vogel said they were happy that Limpopo has completed all logistics related to the event.
"We are confident that it will be a success. We will do everything in our power to ensure that we assist where it is possible," she said.
