MPUMALANGA police have opened an inquest docket after a man allegedly shot and wounded his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself yesterday morning.
Acornhoek police spokesperson Inspector Themba Thwala said Androsina Mabane had been shot several times in the thighs.
Thwala said when the police arrived at the house they found Sello Phale already dead, while Mabane (his girlfriend) was lying in pool of blood and trying to crawl.
"We phoned the ambulance, which arrived immediately in order to take her to hospital," Thwala said.
"On the scene we recovered a pistol and spent cartridges.
"After checking Phale's condition we discovered that he had shot himself in the mouth and the bullet exited at the back of his head."
Thwala said earlier this year Mabane had come to the police station seeking a protection order against Phale.
"Mabane came to our station to report that Phale was abusing her," Thwala said. "A few weeks later the protection order was issued. She went back to him and they became reconciled."
Thwala said Mabane was still recovering from her wounds at a local hospital.
