FRESHYGROUND, Lira, Vusi Mahlasela, Ziyaduma, Tidal Waves, Kwani Experience and DJ Lwazi will represent South Africa at the 22nd International Africa Festival that takes place this weekend in Wurzberg, Germany.
Lira, who left for Germany yesterday morning, will be closing Friday night's activities with her performance.
"This festival happens every year and a whole bunch of African artists are invited to appear," Lira said.
"Apart from the South African artists appearing - Youssou N'Dour (Senegal), Layori (Nigeria), Fatoumata Diawara (Mali) and Daddy Mimbo (Cameroon) will also be there."
Freshlyground, who appeared at the festival in 2007, are pleased to have been invited back again. They will be closing Saturday night's entertainment with their performance at 10pm.
Though the original theme was to spotlight talent from Africa, artists from Curacao and Jamaica will also be showcased. The programme of daily activities includes story-telling sessions, panel discussions, bazaars and craft markets .
Last year's festival was attended by 105251 people with a record attendance of 38000 in one day. The line-up included a tribute to Miriam Makeba, performed by Camagwini.
