LAS VEGAS - Unbeaten boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather scored a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision over WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Not many punches landed in round one, but Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) rocked Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) with some hard shots in round two. It was all Mayweather after that. He boxed well in round three and four as Mosley was unable to catch him.
Mosley was unable to deal with Mayweather's speed as he was picked apart. Knowing he was down on the cards, Mosley tried to force exchanges, but Mayweather's counters did more damage. Mayweather was able to hit Mosley at will down the stretch as Mosley was just unable to figure him out.
The scores were 119-109, 119-109, 118-110.
After the fight, Mayweather said he would not fight Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao unless the latter agrees to blood testing.
"I take my hat off to Mosley. He had problems in the past but he's a warrior. He took the blood and urine tests. I just want everyone to be on an even playing field. If every athlete is clean in the sport of boxing, take the test. If Manny Pacquiao takes the blood and urine tests, we can fight. If he doesn't, we won't make the fight," he said.
Said Mosley: "I tried, it was a good fight, it was that close. He's a hell of a fighter. He's a great fighter. He did what he needed to do to win the fight.
"I tip my hat to him. I thank him for taking the challenge."
