BAFANA Bafana captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena's courageous display for relegated and cash-strapped English Premiership club Portsmouth in the FA Cup has not gone unnoticed.
He has been nominated with four other players for the E.ON FA Cup Player of the Round award for his incredible performance in the semifinals.
According to the judges Mokoena had an outstanding tournament to help Portsmouth reach the final against London club Chelsea. This was after his five-star display in their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, which the former Jomo Cosmos defender described as one of his greatest games in England.
The other four nominees are Mokoena's two teammates at Portsmouth - David James and Ricardo Rocha - Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Gareth Bale of Tottenham.
Drogba got a brace in Chelsea's win over Aston Villa.
The players were selected by a five-man panel that included Rickey George, who scored the winning goal when Hereford eliminated Newcastle United in the 1972 FA Cup.
Portsmouth and Chelsea will meet in the final on May 15 where Mokoena is hoping they will end their season on a high note.
"It's a great feeling to have qualified for the final despite all sorts of internal challenges that we were faced with this season.
"We are gearing ourselves up for a tough match because Chelsea have assembled a great team, which includes the in-form Drogba.
"The support I have been getting from everybody back home after the match against Hotspur is highly appreciated," said Mokoena, who is leaving Pompey at the end of the season.
Last season, another South African, Steven "Schillo" Pienaar, won a silver medal in the same tournament.
Pienaar is one of the stars of Premiership side Everton.
Mokoena has refused to talk about his next move, saying that he wanted to end the season before thinking about his future in the Premiership.
"The future is still bright but the focus for now is on the remainder of the matches with Portsmouth."
