BUCS AND CHIEFS GET EASY RIDE

ON paper Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs face an easy passage to the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup after they were drawn against opponents from the lower ranks.

The Buccaneers have been pitted against Vodacom Promotional League side Als Puk Tawana, who caused an upset when they knocked the fancied Platinum Stars out of the prestigious competition last week.

Amakhosi have been drawn against National First Division campaigners FC Cape Town.

Bucs coach Rudi Krol has admitted that it will be fatal to take the North West club lightly.

"There are no weak teams in the game of football and for this team to reach this stage of tournament is proof enough of their capability. I don't know much about them, but I'll try to get as much information about them as possible," said Krol after the draw in Johannesburg yesterday.

He added that judging by their result against Stars, Tawana were capable of causing more upsets in the tournament.

"They (Tawana) kicked out a PSL team and that was a warning to other teams," he said.

Tawana are Mamelodi Sundowns' feeder team and are under the watchful eye of Zipho Dlangalala and the Brazilians' technical director, Ted Dumitru.

Chiefs mentor Vladimir Vermezovic said he will try to avoid last season's embarrassment when Amakhosi, under Muhsin Ertugral, were bundled out of the tournament by Pretoria University.

"I try to do my job to the best of my ability and the results will come afterwards," said Vermezovic, who will hope that Knowledge Musona continues with his rich vein of form.

Defending champions Moroka Swallows will again welcome a KwaZulu-Natal team when they come up against AmaZulu in an all-Absa Premiership match-up. The Birds reached the last 16 at Lamontville Golden Arrows' expense.

Downs engage Black Leopards, Ajax Cape Town face Free State Stars, Winnerspark tackle Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bidvest Wits take on Thanda Royal Zulu and Jomo Cosmos entertain AmaTuks. The PSL will announce the dates and venues for the matches today.
