Diligent schooling on in Hazyview

I WAS pleasantly taken aback when I visited Hazyview, in Mpumalanga, and saw schools open on a Saturday.

Classes started at exactly 7.30am at one primary school and finished very late in the afternoon. Gates were locked to prevent truancy.

A teacher told me that they were trying to complete the syllabus before the World Cup. It is a pity that some pupils did not grab the opportunity and preferred to roam the streets. It is also a pity that other provinces are not following the example.
