A MUSINA councillor and a former human resources employee at the municipality, who were arrested for charging money for placement in government jobs, have been released on bail.
The suspects, Hlaulani Mlati, a sports arts and culture councillor, and Tshilidzi Munyai were released after they were granted R2000 bail each in the Musina magistrate's court on Tuesday.
They were not asked to plead since police investigations were continuing.
The two were arrested on Monday.
Hlaulani, 30, and Munyai, 29, were suspected of colluding to cheat the government social relief programme by charging money for job placement opportunities despite the service being free for poor people.
They were charged for extortion, robbing people under false pretences and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Musina police spokesperson Inspector Sydney Ringane said the two were granted bail and the matter was postponed to March 9 for further investigations.
