A LIMPOPO girl who has been struggling to get an identity document because she was recorded as being a male will have her application processed urgently , thanks to Sowetan .

Officials at the Department of Home Affairs in Tzaneen have been ordered by their superiors in the province to ensure that Bonani Nkuna, 21, of GaMokgwathi village in Bolobedu, receives an ID immediately.

This is after Sowetan reported on Tuesday that she had been unable to get an ID because the information on her birth certificate indicated she was male.

Nkuna said she only realised this mistake recently when she went to the department to apply for a new ID, when she discovered that her gender on her birth certificate was wrong.

She said she had also applied for an ID in 2008, but it could not be delivered to her because the information on her certificate was reportedly wrong.

The spokesperson for the department in Limpopo, Sam Moremi, said they had instructed the area manager for Tzaneen, Eddy Maphosa, to give the matter priority so that Nkuna could be assisted "immediately".
