NEW Frank Talk, a publication produced by newspaper columnist Andile Mngxitama and which controversially looks at race issues, has taken the debate to suburbia since its inception last year.
Mngxitama, pictured, is now taking the debate on race into the ghetto for the first time. He will host this debate at the Kwa-Thabeng Restaurant in Noqawe Street, Zone 6 Extension (Bester), Pimville, Soweto, today. The discussion will start at 6.30pm. The topic of the discussion is Barack Obama - One Year: Is there hope for American policies towards Africa?
With four issues of New Frank Talk published so far, and having received critical acclaim from intellectual quarters, Mngxitama says now is the time to take this issue to the townships and afford township residents the opportunity to take part in this crucial debate.
New Frank Talk's point of departure is the argument that black people are incapable of being racist, as being racist presupposes an assumption of economic power, which they do not have, among other arguments.
Often controversial but well-argued, Mngxitama's views on race issues have elicited strong reaction from audiences among the ranks of those who share his sentiments on the one hand or, on the other, who hold the opposite view.
A one-time land activist, Mngxitama is increasingly devoting his intellectual energy to spearheading the race debate.
He said: "All four issues of New Frank Talk will be on sale at the venue."
